THERE ARE PEOPLE AND THINGS IN PECOS...that you don't meet or see anywhere else.

So, a couple of months ago I was introduced to this cowboy....Bubba, at the Pecos Social Lodge....and have only spoken to him a few times very briefly.
I would like to talk to him for a couple of hours.
Last night I said: "Hey bubba, whatcha been doin' today?"
He replied: "Punchin' cattle M'aam."
He told me it was really windy where he'd been working.
I said: "How do you keep your hat on?"
He replied: "Well, M'aam, sometimes ya just gotta wear a cap."
That's him (on the right) in the last photo.
Credit "Shy Cowboys" photo to Rosie Blount.
I like bubba.

On the Radio Hotline show you can call and wish folks Happy Birthday, or Happy Anniversary etc.
This lady called to wish her son Happy Birthday.
He was 9 years old.
The D.J. asked if she wanted to tell his name.
The reply was: "We just call him 'Boy'"!!
That's hilarious.
Now I've heard of guys called "Son"....but not "Boy".

MY BROTHER BROOK WINS THE BLOG QUIZ!!!

I KNEW he'd know all about the bullet Rosie found.
Thanks Brook!!
P.S. A second email from him says that on a 2nd closer look that this bullet has NOT been fired. (Should I not jump up and down on it then?)
I'm sure he's right about somebody finding it on one of the WWII air bases near here and bringing it home for the kids to play with....or something like that.

His email reply:

The bullet appears to be a .50 caliber machine gun round. It's
non-explosive, so you can jump up and down on it all day if you want to.
This ammunition was almost exclusively fired from the M-2 air cooled
machine gun using metal-linked belts. This gun was really impressive and
REALLY heavy, as was the ammo - I know because I used one for tank
gunnery when I was a baby cavalry officer in Germany. I was pretty damn
good with it too. This machine gun design first appeared in the U.S.
Army during the later stages of WWI and proved to be so good that we've
never found a better gun - it's still being used as the tank commander's
weapon on the M-1 main battle tanks of today.

Where did yours come from? You know that Pyote AAF was a big bomber
training base during WWII, yes? The Army Air Corps used the Fifty
extensively on aircraft of all descriptions. The B-17G bomber, for
example, had THIRTEEN of these babies on each airplane! The bullet you
have appears to have been fired ...... so I'm figgerin' that someone
found it out in the desert firing ranges and brought it home as a
momento (after fighting with a rattlesnake to get it). Sign me up for
the History Detectives!

Hope all of that helps ......

BULLETS, PETS & ART.

This is what you do with melted records.
Willie is wearing his "West Texas jewelry"...it's a dead lizard.
WHAT KIND OF BULLET IS THIS?? Anyone? Anyone? Rosie dug it up out of the dirt in our back alley. It's big. It's heavy. George says it's from a machine gun.
Could Missy sit ANY closer to the edge of the table? She's begging for something good to eat.

Somebody stole a bottlecap snake out of our backyard. We're pretty pissed off about it. They took nothing else. They'll be back.

Weather Report:
It was 22 degrees here last night.
It's going to be 90 degrees this Wednesday.

That's all.

BANDERA, TX. PART 3.

This dead mouse did not make it from the storage building into our trailer that we hauled home.
The waterfall was barely runnin'. We have drought all over Texas. The rivers and lakes are so low and the tanks and ponds are dry....PLEASE bring us nice spring rain this year!
Stay away from the loud, scary geese!
A river reflection.
The river was pretty, even in winter...summer time brings lots of folks tubing and picnic-ing.
We sang with the country western CD's all the way home...when we weren't giggling.
As the trees of central Texas gave way to the arid scrub of west Texas....I kept repeating: "I can't believe I LIVE here. This is where I live now."
Rosie and Peggy teased me...."You DO live here now. You ARE west Texas. You hang your hat in Pecos. You are one of us."
They weren't gigggling....they were cackling in an evil way.
A good time was had by all.

BANDERA, TX. PART 2.

We stayed at a place called Riverfront Cabins....VERY cool in a rustic sorta way....cats all over the place.
PHOTOS: Cats hangin' out at the motel office.....waiting for breakfast.
This cat seemed to be our own cabin cat...as soon as we parked the truck and unlocked the door....he strolled right in and jumped on the bed.
Cabin #5....ours....check out Rosie's BOOTS-n-PAJAMAS!
Other cabins....our motel is for sale for 1.6 million dollars.
Our cabin cat hangin' around outside.
-------------
We arrived late and were tired.
Just walked a few blocks and got dinner, window shopped, got wine and hung out at the room watching T.V. and reading and giggling.
Our cat knew that the little white box in the kitchenette (mini fridge) held food....in our case it was a left over chicken fried steak.
HE WANTED IT.
We gave it to him and he agreed to share a little with the others.
We had deer hanging around this morning.
The river was right across the street.
A foggy morning.

PECOS, TX. TO BANDERA, TX.

330 miles....26 hours....LOTS of uncontrolled giggling...watch the damn road Rosie!
Drove in Rosie's Expedition truck pulling an enclosed trailer.
Went there to get Peggy's stuff out of storage....a girl's trip.
Bandera has about 1,000 people.
Cowboy capital of the world.
Lots of bikers...Sunday mornings it's a popular destination for motorcyclists from San Antonio...it's known as the Bandera Breakfast run.
Trees and water....we ain't in west texas anymore! Even though the trees were bare and the water low.....it's different.
Honky tonks...didn't go to any.
Ate food we can't get in Pecos: chicken salad stuffed avacodos, philly cheesesteak sandwiches, good Chinese food.
