HISTORIC DISTRICT Etc...SAN ANGELO, TEXAS

The Concho River runs thru town with many pretty parks, gardens and walking trails...population 100,000.
Eggemeyer's General Store is HUGE and wonderful...if you are familiar with San Marcos...it's like the Paper Bear but 10 times bigger!
Concho St. makes up most of the historic district.
Miss Hattie's Bordello was a hopping place from around 1900 to 1946 at which time the Texas Rangers closed the place.
It has Miss Hattie's cafe next door and both places can be rented for events.
The Cactus Book Shop is Elmer Kelton Central...he lives in San Angelo and in case ya didn't know he's the best author of western fiction ever.
This town is like San Marcos but much better in that it still has a small town feel. Even though it has a college the city isn't taken over by it like SWT in San Marcos.
I could live here...it's very pretty.
It's smack dab in the middle of Texas with nothing around it at all for miles.
It's very wooly (sheep) with lots of cattle and some horses.
There are 2 lakes nearby.

By crackee, she's done it again!Gosh, Mary ... you always find ways to get us interested in the places that you visit out in your neck of the woods (if, indeed, there WERE any woods, that is). So .. did you stay at the Cactus Hotel? Dave recounted a story about having to stay O/N at Webb AFB in Big Spring with a sick F4 once ...... apparently they rolled up the sidewalks VERY early. For us Army types, it wouldn't have have made much difference - some coffee and a black n' white TV would have been just fine!

Dear Mary,
Thanks for the latest blog. I always like it when you post lots of pics. It does look like a nice town. Nice reporting on your travels.
Love,
Dave
