NEW TRUCK. NEW KNEE.

My knee surgery was Thursday...it went o.k.
There was damaged cartelage AND ligaments.
This morning we removed all the crap you see on my leg in this photo: soft cast, stocking, lots of gauze, little wierd pump that supplied painkiller and then gene took out the pump's catheter. I was scared....the doctor said: "it's no problem at all....just pull it out like you were pulling a shoelace."...yeah, right.
I'm able to walk a little with my crutches...i can put a bit of weight on the leg.
HEY...someone came into my doctor's office and cleaned up all the magazines and put out new ones. Last time i was there i was reading a PEOPLE mag and it seemed a little dated...i checked the date..it was 1997! yet, it was in o.k. physical shape.

Gene took off work last thurs. and fri. to help me out.
He's taking off this coming thurs. and fri. also.
He has a check up at the doctor in odessa and some of our rodeo guests begin arriving late wed. night.

Funny speech expressions that my neighbor Sib uses:
"well, doesn't THAT just hare lip the governor."
"oh, it makes you just want to say your sunday school lesson backwards."

EST. 1967. An ACTUAL, REAL, LIVE Texas Honky Tonk.

It's AUNT JACKIE'S!
In Pyote...population 131!
When ol' George isn't teaching history at the west texas state school...on sundays....he's serving beer at aunt jackie's...it's sort of a beer co-op.
He drives a Triumph moto.
Gee Wally...it'd been so long since i'd played a jukebox...i had to ask for help!

I'm able to get around the house with no assistance...and just use a cane when i go out.
That will change on thursday after my surgery.

That's all.

GREETINGS BLOGGERS.

Here's my new antique dining room buffet.
The leaded glass window on the right sustained some damage in transport...but can be mended....that's why it's not there.

The dogs were barking their heads off last night about 9 p.m....i didn't see anything.
Turned out it was a guy trotting his horse down the street.

Jamey and i are going to marfa for one night while she's here...we just gotta check out the art galleries. We are staying at the paisano hotel...cool.
That's it in the picture above.
It's the hotel that james dean, elizabeth taylor etc. stayed in during the filming of the movie GIANT in the 1950's.

My surgeon flies his little airplane from odessa to alpine every wednesday to see patients and perform surgeries...then flies to pecos to see patients and then back to odessa....cool huh? He always enters the office (always in a bow tie) trailing his entourage of nurse, receptionist and other helpers....he's always very late.

RADIO HOTLINE:
For Sale:
3 refridgerated shitzu puppies. (huh?)
treadmill $10. (TEN dollars? what it is it....circa 1960?)
Wanted:
manual typewriter. (makes me think of my father...and grandfather.)

That's all the stupid, boring news.

DAN & BOBBIE GUERRA COME TO PECOS!

HEY...where's Bobbie? Guess I missed getting her picture.
Their dogs and ours got along fine. The fawn pug is Winston and the black one is Maddie.
We grilled shrimp and steaks Sunday night. (thanks for the shrimp brook!!! it was excellent!)
Gene had to work yesterday...Dan, Bobbie and I visited the museum and I took them over to Needleworks cos Bobbie was interested in the embroidery machine I use over there.
We also went to the Chamber of Commerce so I could buy rodeo tickets...no box seats...boo.
Then we took a drive out to Balmorhea. You can see in this picture that there were storms over by Ft. Davis and Alpine.
We had rain here last night....yay!
Dan and Bobbie headed out to Carlsbad N.M. this morning.
They travel with their 5th wheel trailer...it's really a nice set up.
THANKS for coming to see us guys!!

Gene's getting pretty interested in the idea of trading in his car and buying a pick up truck.
He has heard that the west texas state school is funded for 2 more years.

We will be having 12 guests for rodeo!
I'm excited.
It'll be wall to wall air mattresses.

My knee surgery will be on the 21st.
I'm looking forward to getting this thing done!

Love ya'll.

A POT FOR PEGGY...and other dumb news.

I told my boss Peggy to feel free to hire someone else if a good person falls into her lap. I suggested that i could just come down when she has machine embroidery orders. She insisted no ("we'll get thru this mary")...for me to just be back by the time school starts.
She hasn't been feeling well. If you recall: she had a serious car accident last january and broke 6 ribs and then caught a bug in the hospital and got a collapsed lung, her kidneys shut down....and she's diabetic.
She got an MRI the other day and she has a fracture in her back...jeez...how could they have missed that?

I will call my doctor monday and schedule my knee surgery ASAP.

Brook left this afternoon and gene got home this evening.
Brook brought me wonderful presents: an excellent atlas, lots of shrimp and some sea salt that i asked for.
THANKEE!
He took me to needleworks today and shopping at the museum gift shop. At needleworks...this part time girl julie was working feverishly to do press downs on 300 t-shirts...that's like the iron on letters ya know.
It'll be a miracle if she finishes them by tomorrow. I felt bad for her.

I'll be trying to scam some unused rodeo box seats this monday at the chamber of commerce...wish me luck!!

Gene said his conference was NOT fun like the last one.

I am decorating my crutches...stay tuned for a photo on the next blog.
when i went to the doctor on wed. i was the only one with wooden crutches...everyone else had aluminum ones...they're ugly.
i like my wooden ones.
my hands hurt from using them.
i despise shopping from a wheelchair.
gene is not an experienced driver and i hate going: "stop...to the left..never mind...go right...i want to look at that." etc. etc.

RADIO HOTLINE:
for sale:
2 trucks. $800. takes both.
job corps. enrollment. (for sale? must be an error. and i've never seen or heard anything about job corps. while we've lived here.)

Give:
baby kittens. (aren't all kittens babies? are these babier than others?)

Want:
someone to clean house, pour a patio slab, fix a fence, repair a sewing machine, do yardwork, kitchen cabinets, kitchen countertops.
someone to remove 2 bee hives.

that's all.

odessa. doctor. an antique.

left house at 8a.m.
had appt. w/ doctor.
he wore a bowtie.
he seemed quite amused that i got my injury in flight on the way to new york.
and was even more amused that i went to the E.R. at elmhurst hospital in queens on a busy friday night.
he manipulated the ol' knee and i didn't cry...but busted out in goo' sweat.

got my MRI at 3:30 today in odessa.
so we had time before that to go to the big city walamrt and target and an antique store...this is what i bought for the dining room.
it's still at the store.
need a friend of gene's to go git it.
had lunch at chili's.

they gave me the MRI on a CD disc to take w/ me and it'll be read here in pecos wed. at 4:15.
the doctor comes to pecos every wednesday.
brook will take me as gene leaves early tomorrow for corsicana and will be home friday night.

didn't get home till 5:30...we are beat.
the dogs hadda pee.
then we had to water palnts, go to bank, buy water, do laundry...blah, blah...gene still has to pack.

RADIO HOTLINE:
for sale:
fresh apricots.
golden girl gown worn in 2006 pageant $500. (that's a steep price and why would any of this year's contestants want to appear in a gown that was seen last year?)
sucker rods...(what the hell is that?)
150' of stinger...(what the hell is that?)
grandmother clock....(i never heard of that...is it just smaller than a grandfather clock?)

a huge storm is headed right for us...i've never seen so much lightening. we might get 20 drops. the other day we had 12 drops....i counted 'em as i pored them out of the rain gauge.

that's all.

GENE & MARY'S 34TH. ANNIVERSARY.

HAHA!!! 34 years and counting....we're both too stubborn to ever give up...and we love each other.
i find it particularly amusing that i chose this card before i went to new york....glad i did since i can't get out to get one today.
it's funny because i've been so bossy and demanding since my injury.
and since gene is always in shorts now....even at work.

happy birthday today to kay...she and jim are on holiday in denver.

jamey turns 30 on the 11th.
i think she gets home from china today.
i bet she's a beat little pup.

my knee is improving.
my next appt. is monday.
